Ian Gallacher Jewellers — Established 1973

Bespoke Design Service

How do you want yours?

For more than 50 years, bespoke jewellery has been at the heart of Ian Gallacher. Our Showroom on Murray Place, Stirling, is where it all begins — appointments are recommended but not essential. Every piece is designed from scratch for the person who will wear it — by a team that has been doing this long enough to know that no two commissions, and no two customers, are ever the same.

The Process

From first conversation to finished piece.

Seven steps, one guiding principle: you shouldn't commit to anything until you're completely happy. Here's exactly how a commission works.

  1. 01

    In-store or online

    Bespoke Consultation

We start with a conversation — in person or by video call. Bring reference images, a rough idea, or simply a budget and an occasion. We'll show you similar pieces from our collection, talk through stones, metals and setting styles, and establish exactly what you're looking for.

  2. 02

    Drawn, then CAD

    Design & Sketching

If no existing piece fits your vision, our designers sketch and, where useful, produce a CAD rendering so you can see your piece in detail before a gram of gold is touched. We share an initial cost estimate at this stage — no surprises later.

  3. 03

    Your sign-off, then we begin

    Approval & Production Timeline

Once you're completely happy with the design and the price, you give us the go-ahead. Production starts immediately — we'll agree a collection or delivery date at this stage. Bespoke commissions typically take four to eight weeks from sign-off, depending on complexity and stone sourcing.

  4. 04

    Manufactured in Stirling

    Crafting & Quality Assurance

Our in-house jewellers set and finish the piece in our Stirling workshop. Each commission goes through meticulous polishing, stone setting and a final quality-control inspection before it leaves the bench.

  5. 05

    Ready when you are

    Collection or Delivery

Collect in person — always our preference, so we can see your reaction and answer any final questions — or receive your piece by fully insured, secure delivery. We'll walk you through our aftercare service, provide an insurance valuation, and explain how to care for your jewellery so it looks as beautiful in twenty years as it does today.

  6. 06

    A relationship, not a transaction

    Aftercare & Maintenance

We encourage you to bring any piece back at least once or twice a year for a professional check-up — no charge. Our team inspects for wear, loose stones and any signs of damage, keeping your jewellery in the condition it deserves — and we shall provide an estimate for any maintenance work required.

  7. 07

    Honest guidance, always

    Design Safety Advice

If a design idea is structurally vulnerable — delicate claws, an exposed setting, a stone that may not suit daily wear — we'll tell you and propose alternatives. Our priority is jewellery that is beautiful, durable and safe for a lifetime of wear.

Common Questions

Frequently asked questions

How long does a bespoke commission take?
A typical bespoke piece takes four to eight weeks from final design sign-off, depending on stone sourcing and complexity. If you have a proposal, anniversary or wedding date in mind, tell us early and we'll work back from your deadline.
How much does a bespoke piece cost?
We offer competitive pricing on all bespoke commissions. We agree a full, itemised estimate before any work begins — there are no surprises later.
Do I need an appointment to start?
The first consultation is free and no-obligation. Call ahead and book a one-to-one appointment, or simply visit us in our showroom during opening hours — we are always happy to help walk-ins get the conversation started.
Can you use my own diamonds or gold?
Yes. We regularly remodel inherited or unworn jewellery using your own diamonds, coloured stones and gold — bringing tired pieces back to life as something you'll wear every day. If you'd like to redesign your own jewellery, we offer appointments Monday–Friday.
What should I bring to my consultation?
Bring any reference images, an existing piece you'd like to reference or remodel, diamond certificates and valuations for insurance you may have — plus a rough budget and the occasion. Even just an idea and a budget is enough to begin.
Do you offer aftercare once it's made?
Yes. We encourage you to bring your piece back once or twice a year for a free professional check-up, where we inspect for wear and loose stones to keep it in the condition it deserves.
